Disney's Logo Design History

Disney is the undisputed king of the entertainment industry, creating magic since 1923. From movies and TV shows to merchandise and theme parks, Disney now has a hand in almost everything…and it all started with a cartoon mouse.

Laugh-O-Gram Studios which was Walt Disney’s first business venture went bankrupt in 1923. At this point, Disney headed to Hollywood with just $20 to start over again. Walt Disney produced two cartoons- Alice and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Though these were successful, unfortunately, Walt Disney could not protect his legal copyright on the characters, and he lost the contract for them in February of 1928.

Undeterred, Disney conceptualized a cartoon called Steamboat Willie. This was the first time the mouse character was introduced only to be later known as Mickey Mouse.

Walt Elias Disney is the founder of Disney. He was an animator, film producer, entrepreneur and voice actor. He died in 1966 at the age of 65.

After his death, the company was led by a team “Card Walker” “Donn Tatum” and “Ron Miller” all are originally trained by the Disney brothers.

For the First 48 years, the logo didn’t feature anywhere in the Disney productions since they did not have a logo.

Viewers could see just “Walt Disney Presents” and later “Walt Disney Pictures” on the screen between the years 1937 and 1985.

 Interestingly, since its inception, Disney logo has been redesigned 3 times:

Mickey Mouse is the most famous character design by Disney.

Did you know the castle which used in the logo is known as “Cinderella Castle”?The castle in the logo successfully conjures up dreams of excitement and romance and draws children.

Made in the year 2006 in collaboration with Pixar. Around 1995, Disney Partnered with Pixar. This current Disney logo with its detailing is really impressive. It displays Cinderella’s castle in all its grandeur with details complete with its balconies, towers, windows, and a moat.

In the year 2006, 1st time Disney’s animated logo was introduced in the movie “The Pirates of The Caribbean”

A lot of attention has been given to the font used to spell out the word “Walt Disney” as well. Font of Disney logo is based on the company’s founder handwriting.

 

Disney is a fine example of a company that not only created an incredibly popular logo but also perfectly integrated it into their marketing efforts, making history of the Disney logo a great example to learn from for the generations to come.
